PCAS Visual and Hearing Adaptive Sports

It is frequently said that the internet allows us to have access to all the answers you could imagine. Considering we have our phones right at our fingertips, that seems reasonable to say. However, have you ever tried to find adaptive sports near you?

When trying to find sporting clubs or events for athletes with a hearing or visual impairment nearby, it may seem impossible. From my own experience, I used a bunch of different online searches to try and find local adaptive sporting events. Every time I tried the results were not what I was looking for. It became frustrating to try and find these events when the search engine said exactly what I was looking for with no answers. I could only imagine how discouraging that may feel for someone looking for groups to be involved in.

Luckily, Move United had the perfect way to search for adaptive sports. Using this search engine I was able to find local sporting clubs that include athletes with visual impairments near me.

One local club that included sporting events for athletes with visual impairments was the

Pennsylvania Center for Adaptive Sports

Pennsylvania Center for Adaptive Sports, or PCAS, has been a leading provider of adaptive sports for people with multiple disabilities. Their mission is to improve the health as well as well-being of people with disabilities through the use of inclusive sports. PCAS currency has 13 sport-and-wellness programs all year long. Some of the sports that you can participate in include:

birding, climbing, cycling, indoor rowing, kayaking, rowing, sitting volleyball, skiing, triathlons, yoga, and other virtual programs.

On their website, PCAS has a description of each of the sports they offer as well as the schedule for that sport. Along with all of this information there is a section for individuals to learn more and find out if the sport is something they can participate in. There are also links for registration for the sports that require it. One of the unique features of this sport center is the virtual programs. Currently there are two virtual programs available to register for. There is an option for Virtual Yoga and Virtual Group Fitness Chair Exercises. The virtual classes allow for even more inclusion for people with disabilities.

Their programs allow for participation from athletes with disabilities including spinal cord injuries, amputations, spina bifida, stroke, visual impairment, and more. The large number of people able to participate in each sport allows for many individuals to have the opportunity to have fun, exercise, socialize, and compete in their communities in a way they may have never imagined possible.
